The PortSIP Session Border Controller (PortSIP SBC) provides best-in-class communications security with the convenience of deployment from popular virtual machine platforms such as Azure and AWS. The PortSIP SBC delivers:

  • Full Rebrandability
  • VoIP Security (topology hiding, encryption, protection against Denial of Service attacks, and more)
  • Interoperability with leading PBXs, cloud UC services, cloud contact center services, SIP endpoints, and SIP trunking providers
  • Microsoft Teams Direct Routing
  • WebRTC
  • Advanced call routing features
  • Powerful media services are included
  • Efficient architecture that uses fewer software resources, reducing the cost to deploy

The PortSIP SBC dramatically simplifies the deployment of robust communications security services for SIP trunking, Microsoft Direct Routing, and cloud UC services. Organizations can deploy the software instantly from virtual machine platforms including Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, and Linux KVM as well as the Azure and AWS. The SBC protects SIP trunks, SIP endpoints, cloud contact centers, and cloud UC services, including Microsoft Teams Direct Rouing. Since it is software, it easily scales up or down based on the cloud environment or platform attributes you choose. It also includes support for a number of important media services, such as transcoding, that are critical for interoperability.

PortSIP SBC has been independently verified to deliver full protection and performance, even during severe security attacks. That should come as no surprise since PortSIP SBCs are widely deployed across the globe in many of the world’s largest telecom provider networks, PortSIP’s engineering teams understand the importance of scale and resiliency.

PortSIP SBC can be deployed as a component of the PortSIP PBX that no need the extra license.

Deploy PortSIP SBC in AWS and AZURE

Easily deploy PortSIP SBC in multiple virtual environments

PortSIP SBC operates natively in the Azure and AWS Cloud as well as on virtual machine platforms including Microsoft Hyper-V, VMware, and Linux KVM. In minutes, an organization can deploy a PortSIP SBC to enable Microsoft Teams Direct Routing, or to connect almost any other PBX, cloud UC or contact center service to a telecom provider.

Organizations get the same ease of use and robust security services without having to deploy any hardware. And, since it’s deployed in virtual environments, it can scale up or down as needed.

Managing SBC

PortSIP SBC are managed from a centralized Web Management Portal offering a complete Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, and Security solution. Delivering intuitive, reliable, and automated management, an enterprise can quickly configure PortSIP SBC, identify and remediate issues, deliver improved customer experience, and reduce operational costs.

Deployment Architecture

The example describes how to configure the PortSIP SBC when interworking between LAN IP phones/apps/WebRTC clients and a hosted cloud IP PBX. The example scenario includes the following topology architecture.

SBC Logical Network Interface Connection:
  • The example employs two logical network interfaces, one uses IP address 172.31.3.190. The interface is used for communicating with the PBX (172.31.3.192) which sits on the same LAN. One is using public IP address 185.53.179.172, provided the SIP service, WebRTC Service, and Microsoft Teams Direct Routing. In the LAN, the IP phones/apps/WebRTC clients communicate with the SBC using SIP and RTP/SRTP.

Direct Routing for Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams Direct Routing enables Teams customers to connect to PBX, local PSTN or SIP trunk providers via a session border controller (SBC). Direct Routing offers Teams customers a great deal of flexibility when it comes to their voice infrastructure, enabling customers to adopt a “bring-your-own-carrier” (BYOC) approach and facilitating co-existence with legacy voice and UC systems.

PortSIP SBC support Direct Routing for individual enterprise Teams tenants, as well as for multi-tenancy scenarios (hosted service provider model). In both cases, PortSIP SBC can deployed as virtualized or cloud-native solutions in private (e.g. VMWare, KVM) or public clouds (e.g. Azure and AWS), or as on-premises appliances.

Enabling WebRTC-based Clients

PortSIP SBC provides a bridge between Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) networks and the latest web services. It performs a number of federation services to transform SIP communications into WebRTC or vice versa, so organizations can retain their SIP-based call control (PBX, contact center, etc.) and offer tools that embed real-time communications into business applications, websites, processes, and workflows.

The PortSIP SBC sits at the edge of the network and provides open, web-centric APIs that allow application developers to gain access to the enterprise's Unified Communications (UC) services – including voice, video, presence, shared address book, call history, instant messaging, and collaboration.
